Why are automobiles a matter? (This is a question from Trollhaettan...) I tried to answer without mentioning the word "environmental protection..."
a) Shipping is no matter, cars, airplanes and perhaps even spacecraft are one... This must be about the symbolics of the mother and of the father...
b) Cars and flying are socio-culturally a piece of uniforming and cars are a sign of being afraid of other humans...
c) From a military point of view cars are the most dangerous adventure...
d) Economically cars are an important investment - you cannot find a better usage for your money with the best will in the world...
e) Economically cars are scary monotonous products - other objects of value are not produced in so huge numbers...
f) Physically cars are scary interesting - you could study them until eternity...
g) Medically cars are comfortable - that is good because you have got energy for many other things than traveling, in huge numbers...
h) Cars can be a form of self-expression...
i) You expect disasters and cars are there to escape - but no major disasters happen and your life doesn't change... This must be the theological point of view...
j) Legally cars mean freedom and they mark the beginning of the grown-up age...
