Ladies and Gentlemen,
You build machines in order to do work that humans couldn't do at all or to make your life easier that means they should add to the energy you feed in... Some machines meet these requirements and some don't... Machines that have a significant thermal efficiency do less work than the thermal energy that is fed in them because of the thermal losses... That means they don't make our life easier...
Except the heat engines are tiny... In this case combustion has less chance to be radiated into the cooling system of the engine or into the exhaust system - it has to drive the crankshaft... Or you can place your hope into an electric engine which has hardly any thermal losses...
Now you can reckon... Are electric cars not primitive but high-end products? Their range is not extraordinary and they lack a gearbox but they still consume very little energy... Are electric cars a luxury?
